(12:24)CARMEL-A Monterey County mayors meeting was held in Carmel on Friday. A key topic of the meeting was whether or not the group of 12 mayors should draft a letter supporting the California Coastal Commission’s cease and desist order to Cemex Lapis, sand mining plant in Marina. Marina’s mayor was the only official to vote for the letter. Others voiced concerns over the 20 jobs the Cemex plant provides. Opponents of the plant point out that beaches that used to be growing have been steadily eroding in recent decades. The Coastal Commission is expected to issue an update following a July meeting in Seaside.
