(14:46) SANTA CRUZ- Santa Cruz police are investigating the murder of a transient near the Boardwalk. Shortly before 4:30 a.m. Patrol units responded to Beach Street near the volley ball courts to investigate reports of a deceased male. At the scene officers found a 52 year old victim of an apparent homicide. Witness accounts say the victim was in an altercation with another individual . After a brief investigation police identified 58 year old Kevin Callahan as the prime suspect. Callahan was located near by and taken into custody in connection with the death. Anyone with any information on the incident is encouraged to contact Santa Cruz police.
