President Obama designated 2 national monuments last week, and some locals are hoping he’ll expand the California Coastal National Monument to include the 58-hundred acres of Cotoni-Coast Dairies land in Santa Cruz County. The Coastal Monument currently protects thousands of off-shore rocks, islands and pinnacles (that serve as a haven for seabirds and sea mammals), as well as some public land onshore. President Obama’s has until January 20th to change the designation.
