(08:23) MONTEREY – The owner of a restaurant on Monterey’s wharf has applied for a permit to demolish his business at the end of his lease in 2021. The Old Fisherman’s Grotto has been on the wharf for over 60 years. The restaurant’s owner, Chris Shake, has been seeking to negotiate a long-term lease with the city. However, last year, city officials approved an ordinance to limit leases on the wharf to 10 years. As a result, Shake has requested a demolition permit for the restaurant unless he can get his lease extended to 2041. The city council has said they will soon enter into negotiations with Shake.
