(09:02) WASHINGTON – Local politician Congressman Sam Farr has introduced legislation that would reduce excess military infrastructure. According to the Defense Department, approximately 22 percent of military infrastructure, such as bases, barracks, and airfields, is believed to be in excess of the Department’s requirements. The Military Infrastructure Consolidation Efficiency Act of 2016 would allow the DOD to develop recommendations on how to consolidate infrastructure, in an effort to increase the efficiency of military operations and save billions of dollars annually. The recommendations would be reviewed by an independent commission. If the President agrees with the independent commission’s final recommendations, Congress would then have the final word with an up-or-down vote. (S.G.)
