(07:37) MONTEREY – Monterey city officials will meet this afternoon to announce a new policing initiative. The strategy titled the Community Policing Initiative entails a collaborative effort between the community and the police department to improve quality of life in the city’s neighborhoods. The initiative would form four “community action teams”, which would include one sergeant, five community action team officers, one school resources officer and two community service officers. Each group would be assigned to a specific area in the city, and would work directly with residents and business owners. Today’s meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at the Council Chambers on Pacific Street. (S.G.)
