March 24, 2016: Cleanup Efforts in Chinatown in Salinas Delayed

(07:23) SALINAS – Efforts to clear out homeless encampments in the Chinatown area of Salinas have been delayed. In December, the city council voted in favor of a policy that would allow crews to remove tents and mattresses from the streets in an effort to improve public health and safety. The measure has been met by criticism from local homeless advocates. When crews attempted to clear out the encampments on Wednesday they were met by resistance from protesters and Chinatown’s homeless. Crews will return within 30 days to conduct clean up efforts.
