The city of Santa Cruz experienced a 7% increase in crime rate in 2015, a year-end crime report published Monday by the Santa Cruz Police Department said. SCPD received over 100,000 calls for service in 2015, approximately the equivalent of one call every five minutes. The increased crime rate can primarily be attributed to the increases in property crimes such as theft and burglary. Also in the report, law enforcement saw a decline in violent crimes, and a significant decrease in reported rapes, down 30% from 2014.
