(17:04) MONTEREY BAY NATIONAL MARINE SANCTUARY – A full-time underwater microphone, placed on the floor of the Monterey Bay last summer, has picked up lots of sounds, including Beaked Whales singing. Although rarely seen, they apparently often swim through the deep waters of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. The hydrophone, which is powered by the Mars Cable Observatory, is anchored about 3-thousand feet below the surface of the Bay (and 32 miles downward off-shore).
