February 9, 2016: Man Killed During Home Burglary in Salinas Identified

(Updated at 06:26) – Police have identified the burglar who was killed during an incident in Salinas last week. On Thursday, a homeowner caught 20-year-old Antonio Ramirez and one other burglarizing his residence on the 1900 block of Cabernet Way. Ramirez struggled with the homeowner while his accomplice fled the scene. The fight continued until Ramirez became unresponsive. He was later transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. No charges have been filed against the homeowner. The investigation is ongoing.

(Updated February 5 at 07:20) – One man is dead following a residential burglary in Salinas Thursday night. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. at a house on the 1900 block of Cabernet Way. A resident reportedly came home with his three children to discover two men burglarizing their home. One of the burglars struggled with the homeowner while the other fled to a parked car. The fight continued until the burglar became unresponsive. The homeowner called 911 and the suspect was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The cause of death has not yet been determined. The incident is currently being investigated as a case of potential self-defense and no arrests have been made.
