December 10, 2015: Pajaro River Breached

(19:19) WATSONVILLE- The Santa Cruz County Department of Public Works performed a breach of the Pajaro River earlier this week. The breach was performed in anticipation of recent and upcoming storm run offs. The agency allows the river to swell up before opening the channel to the bay so that released waters will be able to clean out the river bed of organic matter. The maneuver is used to keep the river running smoothly and lower the risk of flooding in agricultural and nearby communities.
