The family of a Felton woman who died last month after consuming tainted caramel apples is now suing the product’s producer and supplier. 81-year-old Shirlee Jean Frey died after suffering from a listeria infection. Frey’s family initially filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Safeway, where she purchased the tainted caramel apples. Her relatives are now also suing the product’s producer, Missouri-based Happy Apples and its supplier Bidart Bros. Apple Packing. Both have issued a recall of caramel apples produced during the 2014 season.
