On New Years Day, King City joined several other Central Coast communities as the city implemented a ban on single use plastic bags. For the last three months, businesses have posted information, warning consumers to prepare for the new law, which requires shoppers to bring their own bags or be prepared to pay an additional 10 cents for either a paper or re-usable bag. Stores can also be fined up to $100 for non-compliance of the ordinance. However soon all communities across the state will be giving up single use plastic bags, when on July 1st, California implements the first statewide bag ban in the nation.
