National Marine Sanctuaries to Expand- 12/29/14 9:00 S.S.

In an effort to increase the protection of salmon and seabirds off the coast of California, national marine sanctuaries in the area are expected double in size in 2015. The new federal rules, if approved by the incoming U.S. congress, would expand existing marine sanctuaries as far north as Mendocino County, and south to the Monterey Bay. The extended sanctuary designation would bar oil and gas production, but not limit fishing or most recreational uses.
