A fire caused major damage to a Watsonville duplex yesterday (Monday) afternoon. At about 12:40 p-m firefighters arrived on scene of the 9th avenue blaze to find a woman taking refuge on a rooftop, and another woman who had escaped to the street. Crews were able to save the structure, to which 1 unit sustained extensive damage, and the other unit received moderate smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
