State transportation officials have agreed to provide the necessary funding to acquire a branch rail line in Santa Cruz County.  10.2 million dollars is expected to come from state coffers to build the project along 32-miles of scenic land between Watsonville to Davenport. The proposed plan is to turn the Union Pacific Rail, along the coast, into an eventual passenger and recreational service line.   The project is expected to cost roughly 23.5 million dollars, which includes the 14.2 million rail line purchase and improvement costs.
