Eleven Santa Cruz streets have been chosen for a program to create more space for pedestrians and cyclists. The Slow Streets pilot program is intended to make more room for those taking to local streets to exercise.
The 11 street segments were nominated by residents and selected by the city. Cars will still be able to pass through, though they will be under new restrictions to make more space for cyclists and pedestrians seeking to exercise while maintaining social distancing, the city said Thursday. The city has selected 11 streets and designated them “slow”. They are all listed in a news story on KSCO.com/news.
The chosen streets include:
Caledonia between Soquel and Broadway
Darwin/Owen between Hanover and Hall
Escalona between Bay and Highland
Getchell between Delaware and West Cliff
Grandview between Southview Terrace and Western
Jenne between Blackburn and Chestnut
May between Coulson and Water
Melrose between Trevethan and Stanford
Modesto/Wanzer between Fair and Swanton
Oxford between Woodrow and Almar
Trevethan between Eastgate and Roxas
The city is considering expanding the program. Nominate your street for a possible future phase.
