A pilot program will start next week in Los Gatos. In an effort to retain some of the travelers going through Los Gatos to get to Santa Cruz County, the northbound lanes of North Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos will be closed for the 3 blocks between Bachman Avenue and Elm Street. Reportedly, a number of cities around the country have done a similar thing and have created spaces for people to sit and enjoy some outdoor time in the closed-off lanes. In Los Gatos, city leader have chosen to create 7 of these parklets. For now, city leaders plan install colorful tables and chairs, and use decorated concrete k-rails as barriers. City staffers plan to re-evaluate the pilot program in September. While the northbound lane is closed this summer, one way traffic will continue as normal on the southbound side of the street.
